| My wife and I just returned
from taking some pictures of the Colfax Recreation Area RV Park. You can
see them by clicking on the link below. The Park is operated by The Red
River Waterway Commission. It is located adjacent to Lock and Dam Number
3 on the Red River north of Colfax, LA just off LA Hwy 158. They have 25
sites altogether. Two of them are tagged handicapped and are located
near the bathhouse, which is located in the middle of the sites. All
sites can accommodate large rigs. Each site has 50 AMP service, water,
and sewage. The streets and pads are asphalt.
The park has a brand new club house that is well equipped with tables, chairs, cook stove with oven, huge refrigerator/freezer and ice maker, a large triple stainless steel sink, and a large island bar for preparing food. The club house also has handicapped separate men and women restrooms. The park offers a very nice boat launch, a floating dock for fishing and boat tie down. It has two pavilions, a play ground, a dump station, washer dryer, and well equipped bathhouse. There are two separate restroom buildings. One in the middle of the park and the other near the boat launch. There is a large inlet from the boat lunch area to the Red River, entering the river above the lock. From the park you can see traffic on the Red River entering and leaving the lock. I highly recommend this park for RV Clubs or individuals wanting to get away for the weekend or for those passing through the Central Louisiana area. We belong to the Rainbow Riders Chapter of the Good Sam Club. Our Chapter has already established this as our home base park where we will set up our rigs very often. Below you will find a link to the photos. Note, they were taken on a cloudy winter day, therefore they are a little dark. I have added a link to a map also. I hope you enjoy the pictures and will take advantage of this wonderful facility. By the way, they accept Golden Age Passport. You can get the Golden Age Passport at any Federal Park or Office. One close to Colfax is the U. S. Forestry Service Office in Tioga, LA on US Hwy 71 across the road from the VA Medical Center. Here is a little about the GAP. The Golden Age Passport is a lifetime admission and discount pass for citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are age 62 or older. The pass is valid at National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, and Tennessee Valley Authority sites with admission fees. The Golden Age Passport admits the pass owner and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle* if a park has a per vehicle entrance fee. Where a per person entrance fee is charged, the Golden Age Passport admits the pass owner, spouse, and children. The Golden Age Passport also allows holders to camp at all Federal Parks and a lot of the state parks for half price. It only cost $10 for lifetime. Here is the National Parks website http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm. You will want to check out this website. It tells you all the good stuff that we old campers need to know. I forgot to mention above that the Management and Staff at Colfax Recreation Area are just great. They go the extra mile to make you comfortable. They are very friendly and helpful. They do have some necessary rules to keep the place from being vandalized. Oh yes, it is gated and the gate is locked during the night time hours. Louis Crusenberry
